2025 MLB Predictions

The 2025 MLB predictions: Because we don’t like making predictions, but we need the website content.

Predictions are made to be wrong, after all. Just like with an NCAA Tournament bracket, nobody is bound to get everything right. Part of the prediction journey is to make your guesses and see how much of it was accurate in October. With any luck, we’ll get more right than we don’t.

That would be potential good news for certain teams like the Dodgers, whom I would assume most people think are bound to repeat. At a bare minimum, the expectation will be for them to run away with the NL West and hide. We are not going to disabuse you of that line of thinking. However, where do we project the other 29 teams to finish, and who do we think will make the postseason?

2025 MLB Predictions: American League

AL East

1.) New York Yankees
2024 Outcome: 94-68, Won AL East, Won AL Pennant

The Yankees lost Juan Soto to free agency and Gerrit Cole to Tommy John surgery. Luis Gil is also injured. Nevertheless, the Yanks, in dealing with the loss of Soto, shored up some other areas. Even without Soto, remember Aaron Judge – their lineup is still one of the better ones in the league. Pitching will make or break their season, but they still might be the best team in the American League.

2.) Baltimore Orioles
2024 Outcome: 91-71, Wild Card, Swept in ALWCS

The offseason was a mixed bag for the O’s, who are probably still good enough to make a run at a postseason berth. They have enough credible young talent to make things interesting.

3.) Boston Red Sox
2024 Outcome: 81-81, Missed Playoffs

The Red Sox look better and like a potential postseason team. Alex Bregman was a big signing for their lineup. If they can keep their pitching where we think it can be, don’t be surprised if they win enough games to snag a wild card.

4.) Toronto Blue Jays
2024 Outcome: 74-88, Missed Playoffs

On paper, Toronto has a respectable lineup, at least if you just look at the top of it. Anthony Santander should help. However, Toronto needs more out of their pitching staff this year as well, having been near the bottom of the league. I don’t trust them enough yet to slide them up in the AL East standings.

5.) Tampa Bay Rays
2024 Outcome: 80-82, Missed Playoffs

The Rays, officially without a stadium, are going to go through some things this season, thanks to Hurricane Milton laying waste to the Trop. If they can get beyond playing at the Yankees’ spring training and minor league complex, they are still mostly returning a team that scored the second-fewest runs in the league in 2024. Unless the offense helps their pitching staff out, they are an iffy proposition this season.

AL Central

1.) Kansas City Royals
2024 Outcome: 86-76, Wild Card, Lost in ALDS

The Royals were a surprise playoff team in 2024, and they are hoping to repeat that feat. Bobby Witt Jr. is the anchor of the team, and there are a lot of familiar faces coming back. They also signed Jonathan India, previously with the Reds. It might not take a lot of wins to claim this division, and at the moment, I’m liking where the Royals are heading if they can maintain their forward momentum.

2.) Minnesota Twins
2024 Outcome: 82-80, Missed Playoffs

Minnesota will no doubt look to avenge the end of their 2024 season, where they faded out badly in September and fell out of the playoff picture. Their pitching staff looks solid, and Carlos Correa is a good person around whom to build a lineup. A bounce-back season seems to be in order, but will they make the playoffs?

3.) Detroit Tigers
2024 Outcome: 86-76, Wild Card, Lost in ALDS

The Tigers came out of nowhere late last season to make the playoffs, and very nearly made it to the ALCS. What will they do for an encore? The top four teams in this division could be clustered together very closely, and some early-season injuries could be the difference for Detroit.

4.) Cleveland Guardians
2024 Outcome: 92-69, Won AL Central, Lost in ALCS

Cleveland lost a few key names from their ALCS team last year, but they still have Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez. They are going to need them. A step backwards for Cleveland seems likely, but how much of one? There seems to be a little more to like about the Royals, Twins, and Tigers at the moment.

5.) Chicago White Sox
2024 Outcome: 41-121, Missed Playoffs

After having the worst season in modern MLB history, the good news for the Pale Hose is that there is (probably) nowhere to go but up. The problem, however, is that they could double their win total from last season and still not be a legitimate contender. They would probably be ecstatic to win 60-65 games.

AL West

1.) Houston Astros
2024 Outcome: 88-73, Won AL West, Swept in ALWCS

Alex Bregman is gone, but they still have some of their other big hitters like Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez. The Astros will be fine, and they always seem to find a way.

2.) Texas Rangers
2024 Outcome: 78-84, Missed Playoffs

Texas is kind of a trendy pick this year if you look at the advanced statistics that other websites issue. They are probably better than what they showed last year as they dealt with a World Series hangover and other issues. A return to the postseason could be in the cards.

3.) Seattle Mariners
2024 Outcome: 85-77, Missed Playoffs

Seattle looks like a slightly above-average team heading into 2025. They narrowly missed the playoffs in 2024. Their ceiling is probably winning the division, but more realistically, it will be Houston. The M’s need some offense this year to tilt the scales in their favor and complement a respectable pitching staff.

4.) Los Angeles Angels
2024 Outcome: 63-99, Missed Playoffs

The Angels have wasted the prime of Mike Trout’s career. There is no pool of depth around him. Trout can only play one position at a time, which is unfortunate for them, because that’s probably what it would take for them to win. Hard to see where they are going to mass-manufacture wins out of this group.

5.) The Athletics
2024 Outcome: 69-93, Missed Playoffs

The indignity of it all: Oakland loses its team, and then the team loses half of its name. The [blank] Athletics are waiting for Las Vegas to be ready for them, but in the meantime, they will languish in a minor league stadium in West Sacramento, and in last place.

2025 MLB Predictions: National League

NL East

1.) Atlanta Braves
2024 Outcome: 89-73, Wild Card, Swept in NLWCS

We’ll see how the Braves do in the pitching department after losing Max Fried and Charlie Morton, but assuming everyone is healthy, they still have a fearsome lineup. Once Ronald Acuña Jr. comes back, they should really click.

2.) New York Mets
2024 Outcome: 89-73, Wild Card, Lost in NLCS

The Mets broke the bank and got their man, Juan Soto, but will that translate into wins? It ain’t gonna hurt, that’s for sure. They could use some help in terms of pitching due to some early injuries, but other than that, they look like, at worst, a serious playoff contender. However, for a big splash signing like the one they made, the hope will be for more.

3.) Philadelphia Phillies
2024 Outcome: 95-67, Won NL East, Lost in NLDS

This is a tough third-place for the Phils, because they’re still good. The question is if the Braves and Mets both got better, and it’s quite possible that they did. The top three of this division is going to be a knock-down, drag-out fight, and Philly finishing anywhere first to third would not be a surprise.

4.) Washington Nationals
2024 Outcome: 71-91, Missed Playoffs

The Nats are coming off of a season where they were not especially good at anything, though they were far from the worst team. Hopefully they can hit for a little more power this year, because if they don’t, it’s going to be another long, humid summer of discontent in the nation’s capital.

5.) Miami Marlins
2024 Outcome: 62-100, Missed Playoffs

It would be a surprise to see the Marlins make a big move upwards this season. There is not much scary about their lineup, and a promising pitching staff will likely get hung out to dry again.

NL Central

1.) Chicago Cubs
2024 Outcome: 83-79, Missed Playoffs

Prognosticators seem to like the Cubbies this year. They have some respectable bats in the lineup, like Kyle Tucker, and their pitching staff looks decent. Let’s put it this way: There is no reason it can’t be them this year, save for horrifying injury woes.

2.) Milwaukee Brewers
2024 Outcome: 93-69, Won NL Central, Lost in NLWCS

Milwaukee has some recognizable names in their lineup, like Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins, but Willy Adames and Devin Williams are no more. This team may or may not win their division, and in fact might not be as good as they were last year, but they should still at least contend for something in the Central.

3.) St. Louis Cardinals
2024 Outcome: 83-79, Missed Playoffs

How much longer do we think Nolan Arenado will be there? Probably not much more time. Either way, this looks like a potential rebuilding and/or reloading season, but even at that, it’s hard to imagine the Cards being terrible.

4.) Cincinnati Reds
2024 Outcome: 77-85, Missed Playoffs

The Reds have some reason for optimism surrounding their core, but probably still have some work to do in order to become a contender. Their ceiling for this season is probably third place if the Cards have a harder reset than expected.

5.) Pittsburgh Pirates
2024 Outcome: 76-86, Missed Playoffs

Paul Skenes is the face of the team, but he needs some help around him. A lot of help, preferably.

NL West

1.) Los Angeles Dodgers
2024 Outcome: 98-64, Won NL West, Won World Series

The Dodgers’ expectations are about as high as any team I have seen in recent memory. Fewer than 100 wins would be a disappointment, and anything short of another trip to the World Series would be a disaster. They are loaded up and down the roster and only got stronger in the offseason. The Dodgers are a baseball Death Star and now they have to once again prove they are as good as the hype suggests. World Series or bust.

2.) Arizona Diamondbacks
2024 Outcome: 89-73, Missed Playoffs

Their lineup looks decent. Not as good as what the Dodgers are going to run out there every night, but it ain’t bad, especially towards the top. Corbin Burnes is going to be another solid addition to the pitching staff. On paper, they have what it takes to get back to the postseason.

3.) San Diego Padres
2024 Outcome: 93-69, Wild Card, Lost in NLDS

The Padres seemed to have more talent going out than coming in prior to the start of this season, but what’s left behind is still not bad at all. Tatis-Machado should be a good 2-3 or 3-4 punch in the lineup. Their rotation is also potentially playoff-worthy. Their chances of winning the division are not great (their chances of winning a different NL division would be better), so they’ll have to hang with other hungry wild card contenders all year.

4.) San Francisco Giants
2024 Outcome: 80-82, Missed Playoffs

They needed Willy Adames for that lineup, but there are still a few too many question marks. Their big pitching signing was Justin Verlander, who can still do some things for you but is on the wrong side of 40. Maybe they can surprise, but on paper, there are three better teams in this division.

5.) Colorado Rockies
2024 Outcome: 61-101, Missed Playoffs

About the only thing there is to look forward to, aside from another beautiful Rocky Mountain summer, is the farm system coming up and starting to make its presence known in the majors. Outside of that, this appears to be a status quo season for the Rockies.
