It’s time for the 2025 NCAA Hockey Tournament predictions. Who will go the Frozen Four, and who will win it all?
Last year’s champion Denver is in the tournament, playing in the same region as the team they beat, Boston College. As for the Eagles, this is the second consecutive year in which they are the top overall seed in the tournament. It did not net the school its sixth championship last year, but will they be more fortunate this time?
16 teams are competing, but only one gets to hoist the trophy. In a moment, we will tell you who they should be.

2025 NCAA Hockey Tournament Predictions: Regionals
Manchester, NH Regional
Semi: (1) Boston College vs. (4) Bentley
The Falcons are making their first-ever appearance in the tournament thanks to their thrilling win in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs. The bad news for them is that they are going to face the top seed in the field. These two schools may only be about 20 minutes apart on the ground, but the gap between them could not be wider. It would be a genuine shock if the Eagles lose.
Boston College advances
Semi: (2) Providence vs. (3) Denver
The Friars are good, and have the upper hand in terms of seeding, but this, in basketball terms, would be the 8-9 matchup. How different can these teams be? Well, Denver ranks second in offense while Providence is 33rd. The Pioneers are also 9th in defense while Providence is 19th. Anything can happen in one game, but Denver might be better despite having to travel a long way for this contest.
Denver advances
Final: (1) Boston College vs. (3) Denver
We already know Denver can beat BC. However, one would imagine that the Eagles are focused on vengeance. I shall grant it to them this time.
Boston College advances
Fargo, ND Regional
Semi: (1) Western Michigan vs. (4) Minnesota State
The Broncos have the nation’s most prolific offense and have had an exceptional season. Hard to see it coming to an end this soon, even though Minnesota State cruised through their conference and has some scorers. The Mavericks have the nation’s top defense, led by goalie Alex Tracy, which counts for something, so perhaps they can keep it close. This has the potential to be a sneaky good game.
Western Michigan advances
Semi: (2) Minnesota vs. (3) Massachusetts
Minnesota scores a lot of goals, led by Hobey Baker finalist Jimmy Snuggerud. These teams are about even defensively, so the tie goes to the better offense, and the team that didn’t have to schlep half-way across the country.
Minnesota advances
Final: (1) Western Michigan vs. (2) Minnesota
There is a lot to like about Western Michigan. There is also plenty to like about Minnesota. Here’s the thing: Minnesota has been there and done that as a program. Western Michigan is getting there, but is still trying to get over the hump. On paper, WMU might be the better team, but my gut says to go with the team that has been to the Frozen Four two of the past three seasons.
Minnesota advances
Toledo, OH Regional
Semi: (1) Michigan State vs. (4) Cornell
BC might be the top seed, but Michigan State is ranked number one, and that’s for good reason. Cornell did very well to get to this point, but one would imagine they cashed out all of their magic for the season trying to get into the tournament.
Michigan State advances
Semi: (2) Boston University vs. (3) Ohio State
Boston University might not have a Hobey finalist, but they do have prolific forwards like Quinn Hutson to lead the Terriers to a top-five offense nationally. Where this could get touchy is that BU’s defense isn’t that great statistically. I think they’re a better team than Ohio State, but maybe not by a lot.
Boston University advances
Final: (1) Michigan State vs. (2) Boston University
Anything short of a Frozen Four trip for this Spartans team would be a big disappointment. Isaac Howard will lead his offense there.
Michigan State advances
Allentown, PA Regional
Semi: (1) Maine vs. (4) Penn State
I really like this Maine team, but I am concerned that they are playing a neutral site game here against Penn State which is more or less a road game to open the tournament. This and the WMU/Minnesota State games are the 1-4 matchups with the most upset potential. Albin Boija is going to have to be on-point inside the net. Maine can handle their business, but if Aiden Fink gets going, watch out.
Maine advances
Semi: (2) Connecticut vs. (3) Quinnipiac
UConn is in the tournament for the first time ever, whereas Quinnipiac has won a title within the last few years. Can they get to the Frozen Four for a fourth time? First, they will need to dispense with an in-state rival. Quinnipiac has some goal-scoring potential here and (because I need some upsets in here) I think they pull this off.
Quinnipiac advances
Final: (1) Maine vs. (3) Quinnipiac
The Hockey East champions have had a great year. However, what the hell: Let’s do something proper stupid and pick Quinnipiac. Matej Marinov wins the sophomore goalie battle and the Bobcats return to the promised land.
Quinnipiac advances
2025 NCAA Hockey Tournament Predictions: Frozen Four
Semi: (1) Boston College vs. (2) Minnesota
Minnesota will be a pain in the Eagles’ collective ass, but Jacob Fowler does just enough between the pipes and Boston College gets back to the title game for a chance at redemption.
Boston College advances
Semi: (1) Michigan State vs. (3) Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac will have done well to get to this point. However, Michigan State, for reasons already established, is just too good, and they will not be denied their opportunity to play for a title.
Michigan State advances
Natty: (1) Boston College vs. (1) Michigan State
This should be a great game between the two best teams in the country. The Eagles remember falling in the title game last year, and I am sure they would rather not repeat it. BC has a little bit of an advantage in-goal and that could be the difference that brings a title to Chestnut Hill, the first since Jerry York’s retirement.
Boston College wins
